RELEVANT Magazine - The Dangers of Emotional Pornography

>> Friday, May 14, 2010

Hey all!

I ran across a very thought provoking article from RELEVANT Magazine that I would like to pass on to you. Instead of commenting on it myself I'll just let the article do the talking as I don't have anything to add on top of it. I would like to clarify that I view the article as "food for thought" as much as anything else and by sharing it I'm not saying I agree with it on all points. I think it is asking the right questions, though, thus my reason for passing it on.

RELEVANT Magazine - The Dangers of Emotional Pornography

Of course, if any readers have a comment to make or a thought to share I'd be more than happy to hear it. :-)

God bless and veritas supra omnis!

I believe that there is a lot of food for thought in that article. how are our thoughts of relationships in line with Phil. 4:8? How much of my dreams has the other person fulfilling my hopes and expectations? is that being in line with servant mindedness.

I believe that this is an over looked area. But what then is to be done about it? I should remember to bring this up in a class next semester.

Charlie,

Thanks for the comment and the shared resource. I found the article thought provoking, but the comments were the best part, I thought. I wasn't able to read them all...but the ones I read were very good!

I know I'm just echoing the original article here...but I agree with your statement that this is indeed an overlooked area.

Out of curiosity, I recently watched a couple episodes of the TV show Glee and it left me with a very distinct feeling of discomfort. I couldn't put my finger on what exactly it was about it that made me uncomfortable beyond the normal silliness of it, just something about it was wrong and I couldn't put my finger on it right away. But, after reading the RELEVANT article I kind of though "ah ha!" because "emotional pornography" described the problem and discomfort I felt but couldn't describe watching that show.

I wouldn't want to get hung up debating that specific TV show. It might have just been me (though I don't think so) but I definitely felt that the whole thing was just wrong.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling now. I just wanted to throw that out because it's something I've been mulling over. :-)
